I see clearly the same theme behind: both trying to perpetuate the specie.

Suppose that Fred didn’t cheat. He then would escape the lion? I don’t think so.
So Fred’s destiny is written in any case. If he pretends to be smart and also if he doesn’t pretend.
It’s not a matter of cheating or not cheating. If you’re weak you’ll succumb.

Fred cheats, because he tries to show the lion he’s very fit, but instead he is just a regular guy who can’t really afford “stotting” without being eaten.
Natural selection makes Fred obsolete, and leaves only nearly “honest” antelopes (the cheating antelopes will be eaten very soon, and thus will reproduce less than honest ones).

Didnn’t understand this sentence:

Why is Fred supposed to be a cheater?
