Concentrated solar by SunRGI
Read this article on LighterFootStep about the new SunRGI concentrated solar product.
The principle is old and simple: concentrate solar power, using magnifying lenses, and put a photovoltaic cell under it.
They added a cooling heat sink to dissipate the enormous amount of heat generated.

Hope to see this technology soon! Maybe it will save us from Data Center pollution.

May 5, 2008 - 01:05:22I think it’s a very good idea, the main problem with photovoltaic is the big amount of sylicon required to build the panels, using plastic Fresnel lenses (very cheap to build) can help a lot reducing the need of expensive material, thus reducing the overall cost.
The main issue is the high temperature which stress the cell reducing its lifetime.
They put an heat exchanger but how much this devices will last?
Current panels are guaranteed for 15-20 years (but they should work for 30-40 years at least), anyway I hope to see this things on market very very soon.
Another problem is that, despite the fact this technology is old and simple, prices are high, because there is a monopoly on the components.
If i’m not wrong in madrid they use a similar sistem almost everywhere in the new public buildings, and they have tiles with photovoltaic technologies integrated in it…
…And while in the rest of the world use it, here in Italy politicians keep talking about these things but don’t do anything…
